This breakfast smoothie is the smoothie of breakfast champions, and I don’t say that casually. It’s the complete package, providing all you need to kickstart the day and begin to accomplish all that you want to achieve. For me, there’s nothing worse than waking up knowing that I need to spend the morning in the kitchen huddled behind pots and pans making breakfast for the family. I’m often not that hungry in the mornings and cleaning up a load of dishes after it all begins to lose its appeal once the kids are up and about. I like to keep things simple and stick to a well-known, highly-rewarding, banana, milk, and rolled oats smoothie.
As Easy as 1,2,3
The best thing about this smoothie is working out what you’re going to do with all the time you’ll save. You can tick off all the tasks like taking the dog for a walk so that it won’t bark at night. Or even finishing that novel you’ve been reading but can’t get finished.
To make this recipe, you’ll need to get some banana in the freezer beforehand so that it’s frozen when you’re ready to make it. I suggest keeping a freezer friendly container on hand that you can refill throughout the week. This way you’ll have frozen banana prepared to go for all your smoothie needs. Bananas make an excellent base for a smoothie, crammed with essential nutrients, potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and have been shown to benefit digestion, heart health, and weight loss. (1)
Rolled oats are a breakfast staple in my house. They’re also the key to this beautiful smoothie recipe as they’re one of the most nutritious grains around, not to mention they’re gluten-free and offer a host of health benefits such as promoting weight loss, lowering blood sugar levels, and reducing your risk of heart disease and stroke. Rolled oats have a significant amount of magnesium, fiber, plant-based protein, potassium, and they help to add volume to your smoothie, which is good if you’re having it as a meal replacement. (2)
