The Best Watermelon Weight Loss Smoothie (Save This Recipe!)
Watermelon is easily one of my favorite fruits to enjoy as a healthy summertime snack because it’s so tasty and it helps me to stay hydrated on those blisteringly hot days. It’s also a fantastic ingredient to use when making smoothies because it’s so versatile. It can be used to make everything from weight loss smoothies to smoothies focused on detoxing your body. The recipe that I’ll be sharing today makes a wicked watermelon weight loss smoothie that combines watermelon with a few other great ingredients to make a smoothie that will leave you feeling completely satisfied after drinking it. This smoothie is a great way to curb hunger cravings so you can stay on track with your weight loss goals.
The Perfect Mix of Ingredients for Weight Loss
One of the main reasons this smoothie recipe is so incredibly satisfying is due to some smart choices when it comes to the ingredient included. You’ll be adding in ½ of a large banana along with your watermelon as your two sources of fruits. Bananas are one of my favorite ingredients to use in weight loss smoothies, and they make a perfect pairing with watermelon. Both ingredients are excellent source of disease-fighting antioxidants, along with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other essential nutrients. In fact, studies have found that watermelon consumption in particular was found to improve both inflammation and antioxidant capacity, helping to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. (1)
You’ll also be adding a mix of plain kefir and Greek yogurt into the mix, both of which are great sources of probiotics that help to keep your gut healthy. Probiotics have been shown to provide numerous fantastic health benefits, such as providing relief from diarrhea, reducing the severity of allergy symptoms, boosting the immune system, and they may even help to keep your heart healthy by reducing total cholesterol levels. (2) In addition to its probiotic content, the Greek yogurt also adds a solid amount of protein to this recipe, helping to make it even more satiating.
Chia Seeds – An Excellent Source of Plant-Based Omega-3 Fats
And while we’re on the topic of making the smoothie more satiating, you’ll also need to mix in one tablespoon of chia seeds. They’ll be providing plenty of omega-3 essential fatty acids, fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to this recipe. Research into the health benefits of chia seeds has actually found that they provide many therapeutic benefits thanks to their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-anxiety, and antidepressant properties.
