Nourishing Strawberry Banana Detox Smoothie for a Quick Cleanse
Have you ever done a proper cleanse before? I have, and it was brutal, if I must say. The after-effects were well worth it though. I don’t however, have the luxury of doing a cleanse regularly because it takes a lot of preparation for me, and since I’m always on the go, I settle for less demanding cleanses so that I can still go on with my day like normal. If this sounds like more your style, keep reading.
I’ll be using my Magic Bullet for this recipe. It’s similar to a Nutribullet. Both are single-serve blenders that are great for individuals and small families. I also have a Vitamix which was a bit of an investment, but what can I say, I love my smoothies. Whatever blender system you have, I’m sure you’ll be fine.
As with previous recipes, I’ll be using strawberries and bananas in this recipe. It’s an excellent sweet and creamy base that doesn’t add a lot of calories to your smoothie, which helps with weight management especially if you lead a sedentary lifestyle or if you’re desk-bound like me.
Next, you’ll be adding some hemp seeds which are full of healthy fats and plant-based protein, not to mention fiber. Next, you’ll be adding in half a small beet. Beets are high in fiber, essential minerals like manganese and potassium, and immune-boosting vitamin C. It’s also high in folate, which promotes cell and tissue growth. (1) The last dry ingredient in this smoothie is turmeric. Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant which helps fight cancer, reduce inflammation, promote a stronger immune system, and many more. (2) Tying it all together is almond milk, an excellent plant-based alternative to dairy-based milk for those who are sensitive to it. It has a nutty flavor to it, but it goes well with this recipe.
Having a balance of protein, carbs and fats will not only help you manage your weight, it will also provide your body with stable energy levels throughout the day. Unlike simple sugars such as candy or soda, this smoothie recipe won’t cause you to crash later on in the day. Also, it’s an excellent way to promote your body’s natural cleansing abilities. Even though the kidneys and liver are your body’s natural filtration systems, it can’t hurt to provide a little support and give them a bit of a break once in a while.
The next time you’re feeling run down, try making this detox smoothie. I guarantee it’ll put a little pep in your step, and you’ll be nourishing your body from the inside out as well. It’s a win-win.
