Fit-For-The-Gods Avocado Smoothie – High in Protein and Healthy Fat

By Emma

One of the best ways to improve your health and overall quality of life is by exercising regularly. Any form of physical activity that elevates the heart rate and is performed for a certain period of time can be considered as exercise. You don’t necessarily have to sign up for gym membership, lift weights, and do cardio. According to fitness coaches, choosing a form of exercise that you really enjoy increases the likelihood of it transforming into a sustainable habit.

When exercise becomes a part of everyday life, it’s important to allow your body to recover with proper rest and a healthy diet. Nutritionists agree that a high-protein diet with an ample amount of healthy fats will not only enhance recovery but it will also protect your body from illnesses and keep your health in check.

For those who live an active lifestyle, this fantastic avocado smoothie recipe is just what you need. It’s loaded with enough protein and rich in healthy fats to help you power through your busy day. Honestly, this is one of my favorite go-to recipes because it only takes a maximum of 5 minutes to prepare, the directions are extremely easy to follow, and the flavors are absolutely unreal! After one gulp of this avocado smoothie, you’ll be hooked instantly.

An All-Natural Protein Smoothie

Who needs whey protein powder when you can get just as much protein from real whole food. These 3 ingredients are high in protein and will give your smoothie its rich, creamy flavor. The first ingredient is vanilla Greek yogurt. In ½ a cup of Greek yogurt, there’s roughly 8 grams of protein. The vanilla Greek yogurt will give your smoothie a sweet flavor reminiscent of baked goods that you’ll surely enjoy. Additionally, Greek yogurt is full of probiotics to keep your gut healthy and loaded with calcium to ensure your vital organs are functioning well. (1)

The second ingredient is nonfat milk. Half a cup of nonfat milk will add an additional 4 grams of protein to your smoothie and will enhance the creamy flavor and texture. We highly recommend that you use organic skim milk. Organic skim milk is healthier for you because the milk comes from cows that are not injected with hormones or antibiotics. Furthermore, these cows only consume organic feed.

The last ingredient worth mentioning adds an additional 2 grams of protein but is very high in essential fats. We’re talking about avocado. Avocados are one of the best whole food sources of monounsaturated fat and omega-6 fatty acids. Studies show that replacing saturated fat with monounsaturated fat can improve insulin sensitivity which is ideal for weight loss. (2)

What really makes this awesome smoothie stand out is the overall balance of flavors. The three ingredients mentioned above all have creamy textures that help thicken the consistency of your smoothie. The frozen mango and ripe banana will add a sweet, fruity flavor while the ripe kiwi leaves a sweet, citrusy aftertaste.

This smoothie is great during the day or even at night but we definitely recommend it first thing in the morning since it only takes 5 minutes to prepare. One way to further reduce preparation time is by chopping your ingredients ahead of time and storing them in air-tight containers in the refrigerator and freezer. When you’re ready to make this smoothie, add ½ a small ripe banana, ½ a cup of frozen mango chunks, 1 ripe kiwi, ½ a small avocado, ½ a cup of vanilla Greek yogurt, ½ a cup of organic skim milk, 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed, 1 tablespoon of aloe vera juice, and ½ a cup to 1 cup of ice in a blender. Blend the ingredients until it has a nice even consistency. Serve the smoothie cold.

Now you can see why this avocado smoothie is fit for the gods! It’s high in protein, high in healthy fats, it tastes absolutely incredible, and the recipe is very easy to follow. We guarantee that you, your family, or whoever you make this smoothie for will enjoy it to the very last drop.
