Blueberry Pear Green Smoothie – Magical, Nutritious, Legendary

By Emma

Many people shy away from drinking green smoothies because they worry that their drink will end up tasting like a bitter plant. To be perfectly honest, it can indeed be a valid concern. If you don’t know how to make a good green smoothie (good news — you’re in the right place to learn how to make all kinds of yummy and healthy green smoothies) they can definitely turn out tasting a little bland. The green smoothie recipe that I’m about to share with you guys today most certainly doesn’t have that problem though. This blueberry green fairy smoothie doesn’t just taste magically delicious — it’s also oh so nutritious, resulting in one truly legendary smoothie recipe.

Even Better Than Lucky Charms for a Magically Delicious Meal

Since I love pretty much all things that are made with blueberries (cakes, pies, muffins, and especially smoothies are just a few of my faves) it was a no-brainer to make a green smoothie recipe with them as well. They don’t just work perfectly in this recipe because of how tasty they are — they also offer an incredible amount of nutritional value that definitely match the great benefits offered by the green ingredients. Blueberries are packed full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that have demonstrated some rather potent anti-cancer properties. (1)

It isn’t just blueberries that help to add a lot of flavor to this green smoothie recipe though. You’ll also be adding a single medium ripe pear into the mix. I usually don’t use pears when making smoothies (they’re fantastic for making fresh-pressed juice however) but it works exceptionally well with this recipe. And just like the blueberries, adding the pear does more than just improve the taste of this recipe — it’s also another great source of antioxidants and flavonols that have been found to lessen your risk of type 2 diabetes and stroke. Moving on to the healthy green addition of the smoothie recipe, you’ll be using one cup of fresh spinach (or optionally ¼ cup of frozen spinach instead). Spinach is another of my favorite ‘superfoods’ and I try to eat at least a bit of it most days of the week. Not only is it packed full of essential vitamins and minerals, but it also provides numerous other fantastic health benefits as well. It’s a rich source of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties with proven protective effects against obesity, cancer, and other chronic health issues. (3)

Finally, in order to make this green fairy smoothie into a nice and satisfying meal option you’ll be adding two high quality sources of healthy fats into the mix. You’ll first need ¼ cup of chopped avocado which will provide a solid amount of monounsaturated fats and dietary fiber for this recipe, both of which help to keep your heart nice and healthy. You’ll also be adding one tablespoon of MCT oil. If you’ve ever tried out the keto diet, then you’re probably no stranger to medium-chain triglyceride fatty acids. MCT oil is phenomenal for helping people quickly enter ketosis and numerous studies have found it to be potentially beneficial when it comes to weight loss and body composition. (4) Along with the MCT oil, you’ll need to mix in a single cup of water and then you’ll be all set to blend your smoothie.
