The Best Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie
Blueberries are a great addition to go with any meal during the day but they are particularly great when making breakfast. And they’re even better when making breakfast smoothie recipes. One such recipe is this fantastic big bodacious blueberry breakfast smoothie. It takes a bunch of frozen blueberries and mixes them with a few other great ingredients to make a breakfast smoothie that’s absolutely perfect for taking your breakfast on the go. It really is all you’ll need for breakfast as it’s packed full of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats that will leave you feeling nice and satiated. You could even add on to this recipe by mixing in a scoop of protein powder if you feel like increasing the protein content.
One of the Best Ways to Start Your Day Off Right
What makes this recipe so great for having for breakfast is the fact that it’s loaded with vitamin C and other essential nutrients thanks to the combo of frozen blueberries and one medium orange — not to mention all of the other numerous nutrients such as fiber, potassium, and folate. Everyone knows by now how great vitamin C is for giving your immune system a boost. But did you know it can also help to reduce the severity of your allergy symptoms and fight off some particularly nasty infections as well? (1) The abundance of vitamin C and other antioxidants found in blueberries is one of the many reasons I try to eat at least a handful on a daily basis. Adding an orange into the mix is basically just icing on top of the cake!
The other great breakfast ingredient added into this smoothie is ½ cup of rolled oats. I usually try to keep my carb intake to a minimum but I always make an exception for quality carb sources like oats. They’re a terrific source of dietary fiber that have been proven to help keep your heart healthy by lowering your bad LDL cholesterol levels and regulating blood sugar levels. (2) Another great source of fiber included in this recipe is a tablespoon of chia seeds, which also provides a solid serving of omega-3 fatty acids into the mix.
Polishing off this breakfast smoothie recipe you’ll be adding two of my most favorite flavoring ingredients in the form of honey and cinnamon. What’s great about both of these ingredients is that they aren’t just useful for improving the taste of your smoothies — they both offer a ton of nutritional benefit as well. Honey has been used since ancient times for many medicinal purposes due to it’s potent antibacterial properties. (3)
Cinnamon has also been used for thousands of years for both medicinal and culinary purposes thank to the fantastic properties it contains as well. It’s an excellent source of antioxidants with numerous anti-inflammatory benefits that help to reduce your risk of developing many types of chronic diseases. (4) After adding in your honey and cinnamon, simply finish the smoothie off with a bit of ice and milk and you’ll be all set to enjoy this delicious blueberry breakfast smoothie.
