Over the years, detox diets have become more and more popular. The goal of a detox is to try and rid the body of as many toxins and impurities as possible. These toxins and impurities are built up in the body over time from various forms of pollution; but the majority of them are built up from consuming a lot of processed and artificial food.
Should You Detox?
Now you might be asking yourself, “Do I really need to do a detox?” Two ways to find out if you’re in need of a detox is by reflecting on your usual eating habits and observing your current health. Those who eat highly nutritious whole food on a regular basis and avoid processed food shouldn’t worry about going on a detox diet. On the other hand, people who frequently eat fast food, food with many artificial ingredients, and food high in preservatives should definitely consider going on a total body detox.
Your body may also display one or many of the symptoms listed below:
- Occasional headaches
- Energy levels dipping midday even after a restful sleep
- A sudden increase in weight without making any lifestyle changes
- Mood swings
- Cravings for sugary and fatty food
- Pimples, rashes, and other types of skin ailments
If you’re currently experiencing one or more of these signs, it could be time for a detox. There are many amazing health benefits you can gain by undergoing a simple body detox. The first benefit is getting rid of harmful toxins built up in the body. These toxins can lower the immune system and make an individual more vulnerable to bacteria and viruses.
Detoxing doesn’t have to be a restrictive and painful process. In fact, many people find great success by just eliminating processed food and consuming more fruits, vegetables, and drinking lots of water. Making tasty detox smoothies is a fantastic way to increase your micronutrient intake. An effective detox may improve your overall well-being. (1)
