4-Ingredient Banana and Blueberry Smoothie (Kid-Approved)
When my kids come in from an afternoon spent outside running around and playing, they’re usually pretty hungry. I try to do my best to make sure they get healthy snacks most of time and this smoothie recipe is one of my go-to’s for that. It’s for a super quick and easy 4-ingredient banana and blueberry smoothie that my kids absolutely love. Blueberries and bananas go together perfectly to make quite a unique flavor that’s made even better thanks to the addition of honey and then rounded out with a cup of milk. It’s incredibly simple to make but it’s a truly great delicious and nutritious option that will definitely get the seal of approval from the whole family.
The Fantastic Four Ingredients
Since there are only four simple ingredients that go into making this tasty smoothie recipe, I thought it would be a good idea to shine a spotlight on each of them to highlight how they all contribute to this smoothie in their own way. Starting with the frozen blueberries, you’ll be adding a fantastic source of nutrients that includes vitamin C, folate, potassium, vitamin B6, and fiber. They’re also an incredibly rich source of antioxidants that provide some remarkable cancer fighting properties. (1)
Next up is the addition of a single small ripe banana that has been sliced and frozen. Like the blueberries, using a banana in this recipe provides numerous great benefits for your health (in fact, we’ve shared all kinds of different banana smoothie recipes as well — you should check them out starting with this well-balanced banana smoothie recipe). Bananas are a great source of potassium and B-vitamins that can help to regulate both your blood pressure and blood sugar levels. As a matter of fact, one study found that daily banana consumption was able to marginally improve the blood lipid levels of type 2 diabetes patients, making them an excellent carb option for individuals dealing with diabetes. As great as the flavor produced by combining blueberries and bananas is, you’ll be mixing in two tablespoons of honey (you can also adjust the amount to your own taste) to add a great naturally sweet taste in as well. As far as healthy sweetening options go, honey is definitely one of my favorite choices as it’s unbelievably nutrient-dense. Humans have been using honey for thousands of years thanks to its incredible medicinal properties. According to clinical research, not only does it possess potent antibacterial properties, but it has even been found to be beneficial when it comes to lowering blood pressure and improving overall cholesterol levels. Last but not least, you’ll need to finish the smoothie off with one cup of milk. The type of milk that you use is up to you, but I usually prefer to go with 2% milk for a nice ratio of protein and saturated fat. If you would prefer to use something like skim milk or even almond milk instead that’s totally fine as well. I’ve tried this recipe with all of the above and it works just as well no matter the type of milk that you add.
