Smashing the snooze button every 5 minutes, taking a shower as quickly as possible, fumbling around the house to find your car keys and other work materials, and skipping breakfast at home; do these practices sound familiar to you? Never Skip Breakfast

Out of all of the habits mentioned above, skipping breakfast is the habit that should be avoided most especially for students and individuals with jobs that require a lot of thinking. Going to school or work hungry can significantly affect the way we think. According to a study done on 29 children, the group that had a more complete breakfast experienced improved attention and memory throughout the day. (1) With this, it’s safe to say that a healthy breakfast should be filled with foods high in essential nutrients.

This recipe has an outstanding list of ingredients that not only taste great, but also provide you with many health benefits. Let’s go over a few of these ingredients.

Instant Oats vs. Rolled Oats – Does It Matter?

One of the ingredients for this recipe is rolled oats. The difference between instant oats and rolled oats is the way they’re processed. Instant oats are more processed than rolled oats and tend to acquire a mushy texture when cooked. Many prefer the chewier texture of rolled oats. For every serving of rolled oats, you get at least 4 grams of fiber. Fiber is a nutrient that most people don’t get enough of in a single day. On average, men are required to consume at least 38 grams of fiber while women are required to consume at least 25 grams of fiber per day. (2) Thanks to the rolled oats, you’ll be consuming a fifth of your required fiber intake in this smoothie alone.

Increase Your Antioxidant Intake with Low-Calorie Berries

As the name of the smoothie implies, berries are part of the ingredients list. More specifically, we’ll be using frozen strawberries and frozen blueberries. For the strawberries, make sure to use ones with a darker red color. They’re usually sweeter than brighter red strawberries. Both strawberries and blueberries will add a sweet, tangy flavor to your smoothie as well as essential micronutrients to better your health. They’re high in vitamin C, vitamin K, antioxidants, folate, manganese, and other nutrients that aid in boosting the immune system.

Another ingredient we would like to highlight in this recipe is also written in the title, spinach. There’s a reason why Popeye always gets superhuman abilities whenever he has a serving of spinach! Spinach is one of the world’s healthiest foods and for good reason. It helps protect the body against cancer and heart disease, improves eye health and bone health, and boosts the immune system. Doesn’t that sound like superhuman powers to you? Even though spinach has a bland, leafy flavor, the berries and honey balance it out perfectly.

Last but not least, we want to make sure our smoothie has a nice creamy flavor and texture to bind all the ingredients. This is where the peanut butter comes in. Who doesn’t love peanut butter? It’s smooth, nutty flavor works well with the ingredients in this recipe and is packed with vitamin E and protein. Additionally, the healthy fat from the peanut butter will help keep you feeling full longer.

Before making this smoothie, make sure to soak your rolled oats in 1 cup of milk overnight. We recommend using a mason jar to soak your oats. Be sure all your oats are completely submerged in the milk. The following morning, add your rolled oats and milk, ½ cup more of milk, ½ cup of frozen spinach or 1 cup of fresh spinach, ½ cup of frozen strawberries, ½ cup of frozen blueberries, 1 tablespoon of all-natural, organic peanut butter, and 1 tablespoon of organic honey in a blender. Blend the ingredients until it has a smooth texture and serve right away.

This amazing smoothie recipe will ensure that you never have to skip breakfast again. The best part is that you’re still consuming a highly nutritious, wholesome meal in smoothie form!
